Emma Debany, originally from Ridgefield, CT, spent her early years immersing herself in the community's creative culture.
Emma made her commercial directing debut with an ad for Popsockets, a project she still holds dear. Her growing portfolio now includes work for brands like Jack in the Box, Totinos, Conoco, Gopuff, BetMGM, and Next Insurance. She started out as a street prank PA on The Eric Andre Show and quickly advanced to director’s assistant under Kitao Sakurai.
On the narrative side, Emma directed the quirky short film “Couch” for Adult Swim. Her senior thesis from SCAD, titled “Steve’s Kinkoes,” caught the attention of Natasha Lyonne, who named it one of her favorite short films—a rare recognition for student work.
Emma’s unique style landed her on AdWeek’s Editor’s Picks list for her Totinos campaign, which brought an offbeat twist to the frozen food aisle.
Known for her distinctive blend of dark humor and playful storytelling, Emma challenges perceptions by finding humanity in the unusual. She distills complex ideas into simple, visually striking moments that stick with audiences. For Emma, filmmaking should be an enjoyable process, and her on-set approach reflects that, cutting through advertising clichés to create work that genuinely connects.
